Tristram was involved in a road traffic collision May 2014.
- Traumatic Brain Injury and has a history of seizures.
- Multiple injuries including fractures.
- Tracheostomy and PEG (both since removed) and developed post traumatic hydrocephalus, shunt insertion.
- Litigation case settled, continues to receive Case Management Support.
- Non-driving.
- Reliant upon 24-hour carer support.
- Wheelchair user for longer distances.
- Lives within a farmhouse with outbuildings in a rural village.
Vocational Case Management :
- Antiques as a hobby which is better managed.
- OR to start a profitable self-employed business.
- OR to identify any alternate occupation/interest.
· Key issues
· Extensive antiques stock.
· Constantly want to purchase items, making few sales.
· Stock was causing falls and safety risk to him and the support team.
· Added costs with purchasing stock.
· Aim of SMART VR was to give him a sense of purpose and income but reduce falls and financial risk.
· Other previous Vocational Case Management had been tried without success.
· Pre-Injury Employment:
· Worked as a professional drummer within a rock band.
· No CV.
· Used to buy and sell antiques within antique markets and fairs.
· His business was profitable pre- incident
Vocational Rehabilitation
- VR sessions in his home, garden or workshop.
- Helping him understand the benefits of online sales and changing antiques unit location.
- Reduce auction/antiques buying.
- No one ever thought he would work.
- 11 years post accident and ABI.
- Self employed –part time 12 hours a week.
- Local magazine article with more articles and radio interviews currently being arranged.
- Online sales and a unit in Alleyways plus customers can collect heavier items from workshop.
- Just had a bumper sales month of over £1200
